Human cytochrome P450 3A7 (CYP3A7) is expressed from early in gestation until the perinatal period, when there is a switch in expression to CYP3A4. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. |
