DescriptionAvailable specimen types: Benign, Diseased, Malignant, Normal. The CHTN obtains tissues and fluids from routine surgical resections, autopsies and other procedures. All samples are annotated with patient demographics including sex, age, and race. If available, a de-identified pathology report is also provided for each sample. Additional patient information may be requested but if a chart review is necessary, an additional charge will be assessed. To perform customized tissue collection according to your research needs, the CHTN will match your biospecimen request with the surgical, autopsy and fluid collection procedures of the day. The biospecimens are rapidly transferred from the operating room to a surgical pathologist who provides the CHTN personnel with remnant biospecimens not needed for diagnosis. The biospecimens are then processed according to protocols tailored for individual investigators. The processing of biospecimens varies according to the protocol of each individual investigator. Specimens can be: Snap-frozen or frozen in cryo-embedding media such as OCT and stored at liquid nitrogen or -80° C temperatures Provided as fresh tissue, which can be minced or intact, placed in transport media of choice or saline, and shipped for next day arrival. Provided in a fixative of choice or as paraffin-embedded blocks.. Stained or unstained slides can also be provided from either paraffin blocks or as frozen sections. Provided in RNAlater or other investigator-specified preservative, fresh or subsequently frozen.
