| Description | Specificity: Human Abeta (aa 1-10). Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease in the growing population of elderly people. It is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive dementia, loss of cognitive abilities, and deposition of fibrillar amyloid proteins as intra-neuronal neurofibrillary tangles, extracellular amyloid plaques and vascular amyloid deposits. The major constituent of these plaques are aggregates of the neurotoxic amyloid-beta (Abeta or Abeta) peptide. This 36-43 amino acid peptide is derived proteolytically from the transmembrane amyloid precursor protein (APP) by sequential secretase processing.
