ABOUT US
The Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN) is a unique, NCI supported resource. The CHTN provides human tissues and fluids from routine procedures to investigators who utilize human biospecimens in their research. Unlike tissue banks, the CHTN works prospectively with each investigator to tailor specimen acquisition and processing to meet their specific project requirements. Because the CHTN is funded by the NCI, the CHTN is able to maintain nominal processing fees for its services.
Biospecimens We Provide

Biospecimen Collection & Type

The CHTN obtains tissues and fluids from routine surgical resections, autopsies and other procedures.

Biospecimen types available include:

  • Malignant
  • Benign
  • Diseased
  • Normal
  • Biofluids (urine, serum, plasma, buffy coat)

Anatomic sites include but are not limited to the following:

  • Breast, Uterus & Ovary
  • Colon, Stomach, and Esophagus
  • Kidney, Bladder & Prostate
  • Liver, Pancreas, & Spleen
  • Lung, Pharynx, & Oral Cavity
  • Brain, Spinal Cord, & Peripheral Nerves
  • Muscle, Skin & Soft Tissue

To perform customized tissue collection according to your research needs, the CHTN will match your biospecimen request with the surgical, autopsy and fluid collection procedures of the day. The biospecimens are rapidly transferred from the operating room to a surgical pathologist who provides the CHTN personnel with remnant biospecimens not needed for diagnosis. The biospecimens are then processed according to protocols tailored for individual investigators.
