PDHA1, pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 subunit alpha 1, is a major mitochondrial component of pyruvate dehydrogenase complexes (PDCs) which catalyzes oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate in glycolysis and produces acetyl-CoA for the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. PDHA1 and PDHB form the heteroterameric pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 (E1) subunit of the PDC.
