Description | This INS antibody is generated from mice immunized with a KLH conjugated synthetic peptide between 35-64 amino acids from human INS. After removal of the precursor signal peptide, proinsulinis post-translationally cleaved into three peptides: the B chainand A chain peptides, which are covalently linked via two disulfidebonds to form insulin, and C-peptide. Binding of insulin to theinsulin receptor (INSR) stimulates glucose uptake. A multitude ofmutant alleles with phenotypic effects have been identified. Thereis a read-through gene, INS-IGF2, which overlaps with this gene atthe 5' region and with the IGF2 gene at the 3' region. Alternativesplicing results in multiple transcript variants.
