Description | Clone AE3 binds to most basic cytokeratins (Type II Cytokeratins pI> 6.0, high molecular weight) corresponding to Moll-nomenclature CK1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8. Most, but not all, epithelia contain one of these cytokeratins, so that this clone will label a broad spectrum of epithelia and carcinoma. Cytokeratins are a group of water soluble filament proteins, which are components of the cyto-skeleton of the epidermis and other epithelial cells. Gel-electrophoretic investigation revealed 20 different Cytokeratins, characterised by different molecular sizes and pI-values. They can be subdivided into basic and acid subfamilies. The nomenclature according to Moll et al. (1982) is most commonly used Basic Cytokeratins (52, 56, 58, 59, 64, 65-67 kDa) |
