| Description | Specificity: Human CD28. CD28 is a 44 kDa homodimeric transmembrane glycoprotein and a member of the Ig-SF. It is constitutively expressed on most T-lineage cells and plasma cells. While activation of T cells leads to enhanced CD28 expression, ligation of the CD28 molecule leads to its transient downregulation. Like CD152 (CTLA-4), CD28 binds both CD80 and CD86 and plays a very important role in T cell-B cell interaction and humoral immunity. Its precise role in providing the costimulatory signal necessary for T cell activation is still under study. |
