| Description | Amino acid transport across the plasma membrane is mediated by both sodium-dependetn and sodium independent transport mechanism (1). It has been shown that sodium-independent amino acid transporter covalently interact with the heavy chain of a cell surface antigen 4F2 also known as CD98. Structurally 4F2 compose of a 4F2 heavy chain (4F2hc) is an integral membrane protein and a light chain that has intrinsic amino acid transport properties. Various amino acid transporters including transport type L, y + L and xc- has been shown to be the 2F4 light chains and assemble with 2F4hc for their functional amino acid transport activities (3,4).
