| Description | Specificity: Human VCAM1. Vascular cell adhesion molecule 1, VCAM-1, is a surface glycoprotein expressed by cytokine-activated endothelium that mediates the adhesion of monocytes and lymphocytes. VCAM-1 and integrin alpha-4-beta-1 facilitate a critical cell-cell adhesion event required for survival of endothelial and mural cells during vascularization. Studies of heart development have shown that deficiencies of VCAM and in alpha-4 integrin also result in epicardial dissolution and subsequent myocardial thinning. |
