Background: Indian hedgehog, also known as IHH or HHG2 is a protein which in humans is encoded by the IHH gene. This gene encodes a member of the hedgehog family of secreted signaling molecules. IHH gene is mapped to 2q35. Hedgehog proteins are essential regulators of a variety of developmental processes including growth, patterning and morphogenesis. The encoded protein specifically plays a role in bone growth a differentiation.
