Description | Platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule (PECAM-1, CD31) is a 130 kD glycoprotein that is constitutively expressed by endothelial cells and by platelets, neutrophils, monocytes, and some T- lymphocytes. It is an integral transmembrane protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and that mediates both homotypic and heterotypic cell adhesion. These functions have implicated CD31 in a variety of important biological processes including inflammation, angiogenesis and wound healing. In particular, CD31 has an important role in neutrophil and monocyte emigration across vascular endothelium, processes that can be inhibited, both in vitro and in vivo, with anti-CD31 antibodies. |
Immunogen | Source: Polyclonal CD31 antibody was produced from sera of rabbits immunized with synthetic protein containing CD31 antigenic determinants. Purification: Serum IgG fraction was purified by Protein A affinity chromatography. Purity: >95%. Dilution: A quick spin of the vial followed by reconstitution in 0.01M PBS pH 7.4 or other diluents |
