Description | This antibody is produced by immunizing rabbits with a synthetic peptide (KLH-coupled) corresponding to near C-terminal residues of COX-1. Cyclooxygenase-1(Cox-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2) are prostaglandin synthases that catalyze the formation of PGH2 from arachidonic acid. Cox1 is expressed constitutively in most tissues, while Cox2 expression is induced by lipopolysaccaride (LPS) and peptoglycan (PGN). PGN activates Ras, leading to phosphorylation of Raf at Ser338 and Erk 1/2 at Tyr204). Both Cox1 and Cox2 play a role in the neuropathology of Alzheimer's disease by potentiating gamma-secretase activity and beta-amyloid generation. Pharmacological inhibition of COX can provide relief from the symptoms of inflammation and pain. |
