CYP8B1 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. the cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze manyreactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein catalyzes the conversion of 7 alpha-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one into7-alpha, 12-alpha-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one. |
