| Description | Background: The cytoskeleton consists of three different types of cystosolic fibers: microtubules, microfilaments (actin) and intermediate filaments. Actin, a ubiquitous eukaryotic protein, is the major component of the cytoskeleton. At least six isoforms are known in mammals.
