| Description | IL-32 is a recently described cytokine produced by T lymphocytes, natural killer cells, epithelial cells, and blood monocytes. IL-32 is prominently induced by IFN-g in epithelial cells and monocytes.IL-32 also stimulates TNF-alpha and IL- 8 production by the activation of NF-kB and p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase.IL-32 does not share sequence homologies with known cytokine families, but because the above-mentioned properties are characteristic of proinflammatory cytokines, the NK cell transcript 4 was renamed IL-32 (2). There are six isoforms of human IL-32 of which IL-32 gamma and IL- 32 alpha are prominently expressed. |
