| Description | The antibody recognizes the C-terminal region of Presenilin 2 with no crossreactivity observed with Presenilin 1. Presenilin is an integral membrane protein ubiquitously expressed in the brain; it is mainly expressed in neurons where it is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum. Mutations in the presenilin proteins (PSEN1; PSEN2) are linked to an inherited form of Alzheimer's disease in some patients by increasing the production of the longer form of amyloid-beta. Presenilins are thought to affect gamma-secretase by regulating amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing and cleavage of the Notch receptor. |
