| Description | Specificity: Human KITLG. MGF encodes mast cell growth factor, the ligand of the tyrosine-kinase receptor encoded by the KIT locus. The MGF gene, also known as 'stem cell factor' (SCF), produces two alternate transcripts: isoform a (lacking exon 6) encodes membrane-bound MGF; isoform b encodes a protein that includes exon 6, which contains a cleavage site rendering the protein susceptible to post-translational proteolysis yielding soluble MGF. Soluble MGF is predominantly found as a non-covalent homodimer. |
