Description | Recognizes both liver and bone human alkaline phosphatase. At a 1:50,000 dilution the following reactivities were observed:. Bone Alkaline Phosphatase: 65%. Liver Alkaline Phosphatase: 100%. Prostatic Acid Phosphatase: <0.1%. Alkaline phosphatase (AP) is a ubiquitously expressed enzyme which removes phosphate groups from target molecules, including DNA, RNA and alkaloids, under alkaline conditions, and is present at higher concentrations in the placenta (placental AP), intestines (intestinal AP) and liver/bone/kidney (tissue non-specific AP). Although the exact biochemical function of BAP is uncertain, measurement of the serum levels of BAP can be used as a biochemical indicator of bone turnover.
