| Description | Specificity: Human AQP4/Aquaporin 4. AQP4, also known as Mercurial-insensitive water channel (MIWC), is the fourth member of the aquaporin water channel family. This osmoreceptor regulates body water balance and mediates water flow within the central nervous system. It appears to play some specific role in the functioning of skeletal muscles, retina, and auditory system. Contrary to other aquaporin family members, AQP4 is not inhibited by mercurial compounds. |
