It plays an important role in immune responsiveness by regulating proliferation and differentiation of a variety of lymphoid and myeloid cells via binding to high affinity receptors. It markedly inhibits IL-1 production by highly purified normal human monocytes. It has been demonstrated to affect the growth of different human malignancies including pancreatic cancer cells.
